PRESIDENTIAL DECREE NO. 1844

PRESIDENTIAL DECREE NO. 1844 - AMENDING PRESIDENTIAL DECREE NO. 1843, AS AMENDED, BY HOLDING IN ABEYANCE THE ABOLITION OF THE TWO LUPONG TAGAPAGPAGANAP NG POOK IN REGIONS IX AND XII


WHEREAS, under Presidential Decree No. 1843, the two existing Lupong Tagapagpaganap ng Pook or Executive Councils in Regions IX and XII had been abolished upon the expiration of the terms of their present members on May 7, 1982 and the two Lupons are merged into one with set of office in Zamboanga City;

WHEREAS, the merging of the two councils will not become operational until it shall have been approved by the people of the said two regions in a plebiscite to be held on May 17, 1982;

WHEREAS, to prevent a hiatus in the administration of Regions IX and XII, there is a need to hold in abeyance the abolition of the two existing councils.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by the Constitution, do hereby order:

Section 1. Any provision of law, decree or order to the contrary notwithstanding the existing Lupong Tagapagpaganap ng Pook in Regions IX and XII shall continue to function until such time as the new Lupong Tagapagpaganap ng Pook created under Sec. 1 of P.D. 1843, as amended, shall have been fully constituted and operational.

Sec. 2. This Decree shall take effect immediately.

Done in the City of Manila, this 29th day of April in the year of Our Lord, nineteen hundred and eighty-two.
