Begun and held in Metro Manila, on Monday, the twenty-fourth day of July, two thousand six.

REPUBLIC ACT NO. 9364 December 15, 2006

AN ACT AMENDING SECTIONS 10 AND 53 OF REPUBLIC ACT NO. 8223, OTHERWISE KNOWN AS THE CHARTER OF THE CITY OF MARIKINA

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Philippines in Congress assembled:

Section 1. Section 10 of Republic Act No. 8223, otherwise known as the Charter oithe City ofMarikina is hereby amended to read as follows:

"Sec. 10. The Sangguniang Panlungsod. - (a) The sangguniang panlungsod, the legislative body of the City, shall be composed of the city vice-mayor as presiding officer, the eight (8) regular sanggunian members in each district, who shall be elected in the district where they reside, the president of the city chapter of the liga ng mgs. barangay, the president of the panlungsod na pederasyon ng mga sangguniang kabataan, and the sectoral representatives, as members.

Sec. 2. Section 53 of Republic Act No. 8223, otherwise known as the Charter of the City of Marikina is hereby amended to read as follows:

"Sec. 53. Legislative Districts. - Being highly urbanized, the City of Marikina, shall have two legislative districts to commence at the next national elections to be held after the effectivity of this Act. Henceforth, barangays Sto. Nino, Malanday, Sta. Elena. San Roque, Calumpang, Tafiong, Barangka, Industrial Valley Complex and Jesus de la Pena shall compose the First District while barangays Nangka, Parang, Concepcion Uno, Concepcion Dos and Marikina Heights shall compose the Second District."

Sec. 3. All laws, executive orders, rules and regulations inconsistent with the provisions of this Act are hereby repealed, amended or modified accordingly.

Sec. 4. This Actshal1 take effect fifteen (15) days after its publication in at least two newspapers of general circulation.

This Act which originated in the House of Representatives was finally passed by the House of Representatives and the Senate on June 6, 2005 and November 13, 2006, respectively.
